The Fofo’anga members in Nuku’alofa yesterday were celebrating their new Kava Tonga centre at the village of Ngele’ia.
Her Royal Highness Princess Pilolevu Tuita opened the centre and specially marked the historical occasion by giving the members the name Mahutafea ‘a Fofo’anga – a practice significantly represents the importance of what is celebrated to the development of the fonua.
Fofo’anga one of the first ever kava club established in Tonga in more than 50 years now where Kava Tonga is made available for the drinkers to pay for their drinks when they join the Kava circle has many other branches overseas including New Zealand, Australia and USA.
The new building situated by the intersection of ‘Alaivahamama’o By-pass Road and Tupoulahi Road will be used for their cultural and artistic purposes including preservation of acoustic and vocal traditional music.
